Producing the finest quality pure vanilla products has always been a core value of Nielsen-Massey Vanillas. However, making the world a better place to live ranks even higher, which is why we are pleased to release our 2021-2022 Sustainability and Corporate Impact Report. This report outlines our current and future sustainability initiatives in vanilla-growing regions, in Nielsen-Massey facilities and in our local communities.
As one of the first companies to introduce an organic and fairtrade vanilla from Madagascar, we are committed to programs that promote sustainable environmental practices that enable farmers to earn a successful livelihood in countries where poverty is common. As part of this sustainability commitment, Nielsen-Massey has taken a leadership role in improving the overall health of the vanilla industry, with a particular emphasis on improving economic prospects for the farmers and their families who make the industry possible.
Through initiatives such as strengthening security for growers, preventing the harvest of immature beans, improving the professionalism of the industry and encouraging the use of proper curing and farming methods, Nielsen-Massey is playing an important role in strengthening the supply chain and making vanilla a more sustainable crop.
One of the ways we do this is by requiring all of our suppliers to sign a Supplier Code of Conduct in which they pledge the following:
Requiring suppliers to adhere to best business practices helps us produce the world’s highest quality vanilla extracts and flavor products. If we were to discover any company in our supply chain engaging in illegal activities, such as the ones outlined above, we would immediately investigate, and if appropriate, terminate the relationship.
