WAUKEGAN, ILLINOIS (Jan. 20, 2013) –Nielsen-Massey, the makers of fine vanillas and flavors, is introducing an Organic Fairtrade Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract to retail and foodservice customers for the first time this January.
“We are excited to be able to offer a product that is both certified organic and Fairtrade,” said Craig Nielsen, CEO of Nielsen-Massey. “Although Fairtrade products are commonly known to be coffees, teas and cocoa, it is just as important for our vanillas to be Fairtrade certified to promote sustainability and help producers in the countries where our vanilla beans are grown.”
Nielsen-Massey is the first vanilla manufacturer to offer a certified Organic Fairtrade Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract. The products are certified by Fairtrade Canada*, a national, nonprofit Fairtrade certification organization and member of Fairtrade International.
This Fairtrade vanilla ensures that small-scale farmers in developing countries receive a fair price and use sustainable farming practices, stabilizing vanilla-producing communities and protecting the environment. It also ensures a consistent supply of ingredients to customers.
Nielsen-Massey’s Organic Fairtrade Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract is made with beans that are grown in the shade, integrated with other crops, which helps protect against erosion and deforestation. As with Nielsen-Massey’s other vanillas, the proprietary cold extraction process is used to capture the flavor of the vanilla beans.
The Organic Fairtrade Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract is available in 2, 4, 8 and 32 ounce bottles for retail. The suggested retail price for a 4 ounce bottle is $11.00. The product is available in 32 ounce bottles (6 to a case) and gallons (4 to a case) for foodservice. The product will be available for retail trade on approximately May 1.
Fairtrade Pure Vanilla has been available in industrial sizes since 2008. This product will still be available for industries in one and two fold strengths in one gallon jugs (4 to a case) and 30 and 55 gallon drums. Nielsen-Massey will also continue to offer an Organic Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Bean.
