Julsockerkakor (Swedish Christmas Sugar Cookies)

Ingredients

  • 16 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups sugar, plus extra, divided
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 cup cream
  • 1 egg white, slightly beaten

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cream butter and gradually add 1 cup sugar. Add eggs and continue to beat until light and fluffy. Beat in 1 cup sugar. Add vanilla. Add flour, baking powder and cream; mix well and chill. Roll out quite thin on a lightly floured board and cut with 3 inches cookie cutters. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with sugar (or decorate with other colored sugar or cookie decorations). Bake about 8 minutes. Cookies may also be decorated after baking with colored icing.

  • 470 g all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 60 ml cream
  • 1 egg white, slightly beaten

Directions

Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Cream butter and gradually add 200 g sugar. Add eggs and continue to beat until light and fluffy. Beat in 200 g sugar. Add vanilla. Add flour, baking powder and cream; mix well and chill. Roll out quite thin on a lightly floured board and cut with 8 cm cookie cutters. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with sugar (or decorate with other colored sugar or cookie decorations). Bake about 8 minutes. Cookies may also be decorated after baking with colored icing.
