Labor Day Recipe Round-Up

With cooler temps just around the corner, we all want to spend more time outside and less time in the kitchen.

With that in mind, here is a great Labor Day menu that’s perfect for enjoying the few remaining warm weather days.

#1. Lemony Grilled Potato Salad

Mayonnaise-based potato salads can turn sour quickly if you’re spending more time in the pool than on the porch. This mayo-free dressing with olive oil, salt, pepper and Pure Lemon Extract will stay fresh longer, giving you more time to chop up some tangy toppings or toss our Coffee Crusted Burgers on the barbecue. Partially cooking the potatoes in boiling water (aka parboiling) before you grill them will help the veggies hold their shape and crisp up nicely as they cook.

#2. Mixed Berry Caprese Orzo Salad

Everything about this salad screams summer. Fresh herbs paired with a blend of berries just feels seasonally appropriate. We used strawberries, blueberries and blackberries, but you could pick one single fruit (nectarines would also be a good choice) or use whatever berries you have on hand. The dressing takes a sweet turn with honey and Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract. Double the dressing recipe and use it on top of a salad at work the next day!

#3. Coffee Crusted Burger with Chipotle Mayo

This burger packs a powerful punch of flavor. Sweet, spicy and rich notes from the Pure Coffee Extract are all brought to the table in this recipe. Before you start cooking the meat, set out a creative toppings buffet. We used red onion, goat cheese and alfalfa sprouts, but the sky’s the limit here! Avocado, heirloom tomatoes or pimento cheese would all be great additions. Or, if you’re looking for a barbecue twist, slather our sweet Vanilla Scented Southern Slaw on top.

#4. Vanilla Scented Southern Slaw

A quick coleslaw is a smart way to add veggies to your meal – and it gives you an excuse to indulge later! Our vinegar-based Vanilla Scented Southern Slaw goes the classic route with a blend of cabbages and carrots, but offers a subtle sweetness and a beautiful aroma of vanilla thanks to our Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract. Time-saving tip: make this the day before your cookout and let the flavors marinate together in the fridge overnight.

#5. Old Fashioned Chocolate Pecan Pie Squares

Finding creative ways to change up an old classic is a fun way to update your recipe repertoire. Here, we played with the timeless ingredients of pecan pie and turned the dish into a chocolate bar by adding cocoa powder and Pure Chocolate Extract. This one-bowl recipe is the perfect end to your Labor Day cookout!
